Finally, a Use for Old Business Cards: Mini Flipbooks
30 Mar 2011
Materials
2 small binder clips
12+ business cards, one-sided
markers
pencil
If You Can Eyeball the Art…
- Stack the business cards.
- Attach the clips.
- Using only the half opposite the clips, draw the frames.
- Flip, and watch the lines wiggle. I love the obviously hand-drawn look.
If You Prefer Precision…
- When making a flipbook, only one half of the paper is used. Decide which half you’re going to use.
- Work backwards. First, draw the last frame.
- Place a fresh card on top of the first. Line them up flush to the same end.
- Hold the two cards up to a light (or place on a lightbox) and use a pencil to make light guide marks. Draw the “previous” frame.
- Repeat until you get to the beginning of your animation.
- Attach the clips on the side opposite of the drawings.
- Flip, and admire your work.
